When you think of data centers, you probably imagine long rows of computer racks in sterile industrial facilities.
But they also represent a massive emerging opportunity for painting contractors and coatings manufacturers.
In a recent announcement following Data Center World 2026, Sherwin-Williams said it is positioning itself as a single-source partner for the rapidly expanding data center market, offering everything from corrosion protection to flooring systems.
Sherwin-Williams pointed to several areas where coatings are taking on a larger role inside modern data center construction. Structural steel and secondary containment systems require protective coatings capable of standing up to demanding operating conditions, while flooring systems are increasingly expected to provide both chemical resistance and durability in high-traffic environments.
The company also emphasized what it called “assured global supply,” a phrase that reflects growing concern across the construction industry about supply chain disruption due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Data center projects have unforgiving schedules because any delays can postpone server deployment and revenue generation.
Sherwin-Williams said the goal is to support the “entire data center ecosystem,” from initial construction through ongoing maintenance and expansion.
