Sherwin-Williams and HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams Announce Celery as 2027 Color of the Year

This week, the Sherwin-Williams Trendsight Team and HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams announced their joint selection of Celery (SW 6421 / HGSW 6421) as the 2027 Color of the Year.

Celery is a light herbal green with warm yellow undertones. Sherwin-Williams describes it as a great choice for homeowners interested in adding a dose of freshness and energy while preserving the soothing qualities that have helped make nature-inspired colors increasingly popular in home interiors.

The company’s broader 2027 palette reinforces this approach, pairing Celery with light neutrals, deeper greens and blues, warmer reds and browns, and other subdued accents, including:

White Flour (SW 7102)

Woven Wicker (SW 9104)

Artichoke (SW 6179)

Georgian Bay (SW 6509)

Kirsch Red (SW 6313)

Plum Brown (SW 6272)

In an exclusive interview with APC, Sherwin-Williams Global Color Marketing Manager Emily Kantz discussed color trend forecasting and the persistent appeal of nature-inspired tones.

“I’m always looking at the ‘why’ behind things,” Kantz said. “We’re seeing something happening culturally, but why is it happening?”

Kantz said the Trendsight team incorporates observations from major international design events in Paris and Milan, consumer demographic data, and sociological analysis of broader cultural movements in areas such as health and wellness when making key forecasts.

She pointed to ongoing research and interest around biophilic design (i.e. incorporating elements associated with nature into residential and commercial environments) as another factor supporting Sherwin-Williams interest in spotlighting nature-inspired colors.

“I know there’s not necessarily anything new and riveting talking about nature-based color,” she added. “But I think it’s going to continue.”

While there’s no perfect formula for determining which individual colors will have staying power, a particular shade or palette can sometimes be understood as part of a broader movement in how consumers want their daily environments to look and feel.

With the selection of Celery as 2027 Color of the Year, Sherwin-Williams is betting that homeowners’ motivation to bring more of the natural world indoors is here to stay.
