They say one is the loneliest number, but what’s the loneliest color?
Sherwin-Williams set about to answer that existential question last year with the launch of its “The Loneliest Color” campaign.
Now Sherwin-Williams has named Radiant Lilac SW 0074 as the “loneliest color” for 2025.
Radiant Lilac is a bold mauve shade that can brighten up the right room, says Sue Wadden, director of color marketing at S-W.
“Colors like Radiant Lilac SW 0074 can feel like a big leap for many homeowners,” Wadden says. “It’s soft but not quite a neutral, and while I consider it bold with a lot of depth, it’s less of an obvious color when wanting to make a statement.”
The Loneliest Color campaign is a “celebration of individuality, self-expression, and unconventional style.” The idea is that just because it’s not popular with everyone else doesn’t mean it’s not the perfect color for the customer.
Wadden says the message to painting contractors.
“Many contractors get this right, but my message would be to simplify the color selection process for your customers by helping them identify what is personal to them, instead of what is popular at the moment,” Wadden tells APC. “They can play a huge role in helping homeowners build color confidence.”
