On August 6, Nick Slavik decided to document his entire day on Facebook. It was a fascinating look at what it is like to run a painting company. We reached out to Nick for permission to republish his Day In The Life, and he graciously agreed.
5am: Wake up. Coffee on.
5:06am: Prioritizing 5 things from my main To-Do list to accomplish today.
5:15am: Review long term goals – 8 areas of life I want to be intentional with. Make sure my tasks today move me closer to these goals.
5:30am: Ideation Walk: a little bit of gratitude, my Ask for the Retreat, prep for performance coaching.
6:05am: Towel time with #Sig & #Leo.
6.45am: Arrive at the #slavikshop.
6:55am: Brief a crew on a complex project plan set for the door hanger crew
7:05am: Shop Plan with PM Team and Craftspeople
7:10am: Timestation verification. We verify every labor hour for every human everyday.
7:20am: Day plan for our two assistant project managers.
7:30am: Assist team with specific projects.
8:30am: Van #1 was T-Boned. Everyone is OK. Transported my craftsman back to the shop and got him another van. Police report filed. Insurance company notified. Back to business. First vehicle accident in 16 years of this business’s history.
9:15am: Task 1 complete: Gifts for a few of my seasonal employees before they go back to school. Love these guys.
9:45am: Tasks completed: Performance coaching, prep, project manager one-on-ones prep.
10:30am: Emails crew praising completed slides/content for an upcoming Masters Class
11:30am: Lunch with Surferbro, alfresco Venison burgers (from our farm) and a half eaten yogurt from the fridge
12:30pm: Project Manager one-on-one’s at our favorite coffee shop.
2pm: Performance coaching with my mentor.
3:08pm: Fuel the truck
3:15pm: Job site visit
3:25pm Bank for auto loan paperwork then Palmer Welcome Auto for a new estimator vehicle.
3:45pm: Schedule collab with my PM team
5:09pm: Tootse shows up at the shop for meeting. Headed home to eat supper.
5:20pm: Supper with the kids. Hamburger, sweet potatoes, white cheddar
5:45pm: Pick daughter #Nugget up from the gym.
6:30pm: Scootering & fishing with the kids.
8:10pm Ice cream
8:40pm Kids are on the trampoline, #Sig and #Len patrol, I knock down the ‘unreads’
9:30pm Time for looking up interests, winding down, and thinking about my homework from my mentor. Interests I looked up tonight: How interest rates are made, types of omrtar for stone, my Ask for the Retreat homework from my mentor.
10:15pm: Audio book – Sigurd Olson, “The Singing Wilderness.” I typically fall fast asleep fast. I want to thank everyone for following along with my day. There are so many things I couldn’t include. Seeing how people spend their day is a guilty pleasure for me. I hope it was for you too.
