Paint companies make Fortune’s “Most Admired” list

Every year, Fortune magazine publishes a list of the “World’s Most Admired Companies.”

To compile the list, Fortune looks at the 1,000 largest U.S. companies ranked by revenue, along with 500 companies in Fortune’s Global 500 database. They then break down the companies into 51 industries.

Researchers talked to executives, directors, and analysts in those specific industries and asked them to rate peer companies on the basis of nine criteria, from investment value to social responsibility and ability to attract talent.

This year’s list featured a number of companies related to the painting industry. Among the companies on the list for the “Chemicals” industry segment (which includes coatings):

  • PPG ranked 2nd
  • Sherwin-Williams ranked 4th
  • 3M ranked 5th

For PPG, this was the 18th year in a row of making the corporate reputation index. This year, the company earned high marks for global competitiveness, people management, and social responsibility.

“Being recognized again by Fortune as one of the World’s Most Admired Companies reflects the dedication of PPG people and the consistency of our performance,” said Bryan Iams, PPG vice president and chief communications officer.
