Jacksonville, FL – Florida drivers were in for an unusual sight last month when one of the lanes on Interstate 95 had an additional yellow line. The odd situation resulted from one of the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) hired subcontractor’s careless handling of road paint.
Reports suggest that one of the lane-painting vehicles suffered a minor leak in one or both paint tanks, resulting in a nearly 22-mile paint streak along I-95.
One eye-witness reported: “At first, I saw it come on and I got over into the other lane because I thought it was merging me somewhere, then I was like, ‘It’s in the middle of the lane,'”
Thankfully, no automotive accidents occurred as a result of the spill, and authorities are working hard to remove the excess paint immediately.
According to JaxToday.org, one FDOT’s vendors has come forward and taken responsibility for the spill. Authorities were able (rather easily) to follow the bright yellow paint spill trail for miles on the highway, onto an off-ramp, through local streets and finally into a parking lot. No word if the business tenants of that parking lot led to the identification of the culprit.
This odd incident further proves that paint in the right hands can be magic, but when it’s in the wrong hands, or no hands at all and just spilling randomly out of a truck, well, it’s more tragic than magic.
