PPG recently became the first U.S.-based coatings company to receive third party certification for tools and processes that quantify environmental impact.
The in-house tools for cradle-to-gate product carbon footprint measurement and life cycle assessment have been validated to internationally recognized ISO standards by independent accreditation firm WAP Sustainability Consulting.
The tools measure the total greenhouse emissions associated with a product’s life cycle, including raw material extraction and waste disposal.
“These capabilities play an important role in meeting our goal to be our customers’ first choice partner for paints, coatings, and specialty products,” said Shen Tian, PPG global manager for product sustainability, in a press release.
Another paint company has announced that it’s products are now 100% free of PFAS.
PFAS, short for per- and polyfluoraklyl substances, are also called “forever chemicals” because they don’t properly break down in nature due to the nature of their molecular bonds.
While PFAS was in products in the 70s, in recent decades we’ve learned about their environmental persistence, leading to efforts to eliminate the forever chemical from supply chains worldwide.
WYN Polymers, a family-owned manufacturer of latex polymers based in Texas and Mexico, is the latest company to announce they have eliminated all PFAS.
“Our commitment to innovation goes hand-in-hand with our responsibility to safety and sustainability,” said Jorge Saldana CEO of Wyn Polymers. “Becoming 100% PFAS-free is a significant milestone for our company and our industry. We are proud to offer products that deliver high performance without compromising on environmental or human health.
Cheers to that. When painting companies create sustainable solutions, we all win.
