Sometimes a TOP JOB isn’t about doing a million things; it’s about doing one thing really, really well.
Such is the case with this beautiful staircase renovation by Monty and Mary Byars.
At one point, the natural wood had been covered up by carpet, which left behind tack strips, and hundreds of hammer marks and small holes in the risers. The worn and barren wood looked like it had seen better days.
The Byars had the challenge of doing a full stain and paint to bring the wood back to life.
To get there, they first had to fill all the dings and hammer marks to achieve a smooth substrate. The Byars sanded all surfaces to ensure consistency of finish.
The finished staircase is a beautiful climb. The wooden steps are nicely complemented by white trim and spindles, creating a clean and classic look.
“It’s important on a job like this to restore and refinish, but leave natural character as well,” the Byars said. “Striking that perfect balance was our ultimate goal here.”
