Kindling the idea for a one-of-a-kind fireplace

Arlene Mcloughlin is renowned for her unique and awe-inspiring murals. This year, she truly outdid herself with something we have never seen before.

The client approached Mcloughlin with an 11″x 14″ piece of abstract art. This was to be the inspiration for a massive installation around the fireplace.

It took several sample attempts, but Mcloughlin achieved the look and was ready to take it to the fireplace.

Bringing the art to life was a physical endeavor that meant working at heights on scaffolding and the delicate work of hand-applying the twinkling stones.

“We utilized a selection of knives and spatulas to create the sculpted relief,” Mcloughlin recounted.

The result is a one-of-a-kind art piece. A floor-to-ceiling monolith has an impactful chasm that glitters with twinkling gems. The effect is like a rip in space-time above a long rectangle of fire.

We don’t know what Mcloughlin will think of next, but we can’t wait to see it.
