Built in 1894, this historic home was rich in VIctorian charm but wore the pains of aging. The renovation would require finding a color palette that stayed true to its 19th-century roots.
There was also the issue of lead paint. Following EPA guidelines, Ai Painting Plus spent two weeks scraping, sanding, and priming the walls.
“Although it had been maintained periodically throughout its history, there were major cosmetic repairs that had been neglected,” said Ai Painting Plus’ lacie Ilsley.
This historic home required detail work on the red accents appearing on gables, posts, and railings. To stay true to the historic appearance, Ai Painting Plus applied all finish coats with a brush that replicated the methods used at the time of the home’s construction.
All those intricate facets meant a lot of work in tricky spots. The utmost care was taken in outfitting workers with fall protection to keep them safely harnessed while restoring this classic facade.
“No one on our team is permitted to work on a roof without fall protection, not only for this project but for every project,” Ilsley said.
The last safety challenge was the August heat. “To combat this, we started at 6 a.m. and ended the day at 2 p.m. to avoid the heat of the day and ensure our products would flow and apply correctly,” Ilsley said. “Chasing the shade around the home was an important objective.”
