PPG earns Newsweek honor

PPG recently announced its inclusion on Newsweek magazine’s World’s Greenest Companies 2025 list.

The list names the top 750 publicly traded companies across 26 countries for their performance across a matrix of sustainability measures.

“By embracing sustainable innovation as a key component of our business strategy, we’re driving growth through solutions that yield sustainable advantages for our customers,” said Peter Votruba-Drzal, PPG’s vice president of global sustainability.

The list was based on a self-disclosed sustainability data. Over 8,000 companies were evaluated, with 750 selected for inclusion based on their performance.

Drinking from the fire hydrant

One lucky painting contractor in Cincinnati is about to get all the fire hydrants he can paint.

The Greater Cincinnati Water Works teamed up with the Cincinnati Fire Department to launch the program to assess water flow, pressure, and depth of water mains beneath the hydrants.

All told, the painting contractor will coat 10,600 fire hydrants around Cincinnati over the course of the next decade.

The city expects to pay $100,000 for the project when all is said and done.

Customer questions

A blog post this week chronicles the 15 questions customers should ask before they hire a housing contractor.

That means that you should be prepared to have good answers to these if you want to win the painting contract.

Here’s the list:

  1. Are you licensed and insured?
  2. How long have you been doing it?
  3. Can you provide references?
  4. Do you have a past work portfolio?
  5. What sort of paint do you use?
  6. Could you tell me what your painting process looks like?
  7. How do you handle prep work?
  8. How do you charge for your services?
  9. Will there be a contract in writing?
  10. What is your policy for modifications or extra charges?
  11. Do you provide a warranty or guarantee?
  12. What steps will you take to protect my property?
  13. How long will it take to complete?
  14. How do you handle clean-up?
  15. Can I get an itemised quote?

Are those questions you usually get asked? Are they fair? Let us know.
