Size matters. In the case of Lamb Painting, it wouldn’t be hyperbole to paraphrase that famous line from Jaws: “We’re going to need a bigger truck.”
With more than 30,000 square feet of open structure ceilings, over 17,000 square feet of painted precast, and multiple color changes, the Spearfish High School CTE building was more than just a fresh coat of paint; it was an endeavor.
“Our supplier, Diamond Vogel, helped us overcome any on-site challenges and provided us with the right paint for the job,” the company said. “Our crew put production and quality to the test by striving to meet deadlines while ensuring our products were applied correctly and color transitions were sharp and crisp.”
The project was not without challenges. The first issue was spraying the open structure ceiling in the school’s workshops. The work took place in late fall, so temperature and moisture were nemeses that had to be overcome. The crew brought in a general contractor to set up temporary heat while precast walls were primed and painted.
More than half the floors needed sealed concrete. Lamb Painting first scraped and cleaned the floors. They also watched out for overspray dust before the rain.
“The lessons will live with the crew members who had to clean up the concrete floors prior to their being sealed,” the company said. “Overall, the job went well, and the crew is very proud of this larger commercial project right in our hometown of approximately 13,000 people.”
After this project, Lamb Painting may need a new nickname: The Yellow Bus, because they’re taking us to school.
