In the foothills of Groveland, California, painter Jesse McCandless and his crew took on the ambitious restoration of a 5,000-square-foot true log cabin known as “Airport Lodge.” The project was a full-scale maintenance coating that brought new life to the expansive home while preserving its rugged mountain charm.
The team began by re-chinking the structure using Sashco Log Jam, ensuring a durable and weather-tight seal between the logs. They then coated the logs in PPG ProLuxe (formerly Sikkens) for rich, long-lasting color and protection. To complete the exterior, Benjamin Moore Woodluxe Solid was applied to the fascias, Dunn-Edwards Aristoshield to the gutters, and Armstrong Clark oil finish to the redwood deck—each chosen for its performance and aesthetic harmony with the home’s natural surroundings
“The best part of these jobs is the scale,” says McCandless. “It’s beyond cool to see a house this size come back to life when the project wraps up. The view doesn’t hurt either—we were staring at the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada on one side and watching small planes land on the other.”
