Creating an HQ for Feeding America

As we see uncertainty in the economy, it’s important to remember that some people are struggling to find food to keep them going.

Feeding America West Michigan aims to change that. The food bank serves a broad swath of needy folks, including child and youth nutrition during summer.

So when H&H Painting got a chance, he wanted to help. The Kalamazoo painting company likes to partner with its customers to do charity work for communities.

“They had just purchased an existing 118,000-sq-ft. building,” said H&H. “The existing warehouse had cellulose insulation on all the decking, which needed to be removed to pass as an FDA food storage facility.”

It would be a four-year process. In 2022, H&H started planning with Feeding America. They worked with the owner, architect, and a blasting company to determine the scope, budget, and schedule.

In 2023, H&H completed scoping when Feeding America reached out for help on a new office space. Last year, Keagan and Co. did the work, painting 28,000-sq.-ft. of office space, as well as all the existing interior and exterior walls. This included exterior graphics, epoxy floors, and stained wood paneling.

The new facility houses all of the Feeding America’s West Michigan branch, bringing them all together in the same building for the first time in 15 years. It doubled the size of the existing facility.

It was a long, but satisfying project for H&H, which takes pride in giving back to the West Michigan community.
